Programme overview

Technical depth: Practitioner · Practical mode: Case study

Introduction

Organisations increasingly rely on alliances, consortia and cross-sector partnerships to reach markets, share risk and deliver sustainability commitments they cannot meet alone. Many of these partnerships start with a signed memorandum and strong intentions, then drift because value, governance and accountability were never agreed. This Core Concept course equips managers to select partners, structure agreements and govern relationships using recognised collaboration standards and partnering frameworks. Participants work through cases from several sectors and leave with a Strategic Partnership Plan for a live or planned partnership in their own organisation.

Course Objectives

  • Assess where a partnership adds strategic value compared with building capability internally or buying it
  • Apply a structured partnership life cycle from scoping and partner selection through to exit
  • Evaluate prospective partners on strategic fit, capability and responsible business conduct
  • Design governance structures, agreements and joint KPIs that keep all partners accountable
  • Diagnose declining partnership health and resolve disputes before they damage the relationship
  • Produce a Strategic Partnership Plan ready for executive approval

Conclusion

Partnerships create value only when partners agree what each contributes, how decisions are made and how success will be measured. This course moves from the strategic case for partnering, through the collaboration standards and partnering frameworks, to selecting partners, structuring agreements and managing risk, health and disputes. The final day brings that material together in a Strategic Partnership Plan that participants take back to their organisation, giving them a disciplined approach to building partnerships that deliver commercial and sustainability results.
